"I believe in the value of developing teacher leaders who provide strong curriculum and instructional leadership for students."
Principal, Harrisdale Senior High School
As foundation principal of Harrisdale Senior High School, which opened in 2017, Leila and her team are building a school with high expectations for all students. She is a strong supporter of professional learning through expanded alliances with universities, community organisations and overseas schools.
As principal of Rossmoyne Senior High School from 2006 to 2015, Leila guided the school community through a revitalisation process. She set a framework for enhancing student outcomes by aligning strategic vision, learning and teaching, community expectations, work practices and professional learning.
Leila’s change project explored ways to optimise students’ academic outcomes in new secondary schools. She looked at the implications – for the system and for principals of new secondary schools – of the Department’s goal of success for all students. Specifically, she examined principals’ experiences of the opportunities, and identified the enablers and road blocks.
