Kate Wilson

Principal
East Kimberley College

She is a highly motivated and passionate educator who possesses the aptitude to engage, enthuse and inspire students, staff and wider school community members.

Possessing a strong history of transformative leadership, Kate is extremely passionate about teaching and learning and believes that effective teaching practices can have positive impacts on not only student learning, but also the learning culture of an entire school and its community.

Kate’s commitment to improving educational outcomes for students, building teacher capacity, efficacy, and a positive educational environment has led to the outstanding improvement of educational outcomes for Kununurra District High School and the wider regional community. During her time as Principal, Kate has increased student numbers (in primary and secondary), student attendance, and academic performance (notably, Kununurra District High School becoming a member of the ATAR ‘99 Club’ in 2018).

In her change management project, Kate researched Using Risk Management to Enable School Success. The purpose of this project was to review, refine and align risk management practices in Western Australian public schools and identifies the key tools for principals and leadership teams in schools to plan for, support, mitigate and respond to risk in a practical approach.
