Adjusted conditions and exemptions
If your child has a diagnosed condition they may be eligible to sit the Academic Selective Entrance Test (ASET) under adjusted conditions or apply for an exemption from sitting the ASET.
ASET adjusted conditions
Your child may be eligible for adjusted conditions in the Academic Selective Entrance Test (ASET) when it can be demonstrated that equitable access to the ASET is impaired by their diagnosed condition.
You will be required to provide evidence from a relevant specialised medical professional to support the request. Evidence may also be required from your child’s school that shows the requested adjustment is being used regularly for school-based assessments.
Where possible, our decisions when allocating adjusted conditions for the ASET are guided by the protocols laid out in the School Curriculum and Standards Authority’s Equitable Access to Assessment policy.
Test adjustments may include, but are not limited to:
- large print test papers
- extra time
- rest breaks
- use of a scribe
- special equipment such as a laptop or device
- answering in the question booklet
- specific seating arrangements.
Reading the test materials or questions to a student is not permitted, even if this is what usually happens for the student in the classroom.
Arts adjusted conditions
Exemption from the ASET (Arts applicants only)
Children who are only applying for arts programs can request to be exempt from sitting the ASET.
You will be required to provide evidence to support the request at the time of application or complete an Arts-only exemption request form prior to the deadline.
If approved, your child would not be required to sit the ASET and will be selected on the basis of the arts program workshop/audition and interview.
