Free instructor qualifications for students
Train with us to become a qualified swim teacher.
We have an exciting opportunity for eligible individuals that would like to become a swim teacher with the Department of Education.
Training program
The training program is fully funded. This includes:
- registration for an approved swim teacher course
- registration for an accredited CPR qualification
- the cost of your Department of Education Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC), if over 18 years old.
You will receive:
- ongoing guidance to support successful completion of the course
- training content advice and assistance
- coordinated training support from registration until completion.
To be eligible, you must:
- be a Year 12 student or enrolled in an education institution in WA
- be at least 17 years old at the time you register for a course or workshop
- apply for a job in one of our swimming programs within 12 months of your face-to-face workshop.
The training program offers two models for learning.
All-inclusive swim teacher program (2 weeks)
The all-inclusive program is ideal for those that want to join the aquatic industry as soon as possible. If you are keen to ‘make a splash’ with your swimming career, this is a great option.
To participate in the all-inclusive course, you must be available to attend the entire two-week period.
Participants are required to:
- complete the course registration
- successfully complete the self-paced online learning
- attend the swim teacher face-to-face workshop
- register for the CPR course or provide evidence of a current CPR qualification
- attend all days of the workplace training.
Swim teacher course
The swim teacher course provides participants flexibility to schedule their training within a 6-month period.
Participants are required to:
- complete the course registration
- successfully complete the self-paced online learning
- attend the swim teacher face-to-face workshop on the enrolled date
- register for the CPR course or provide evidence of a current CPR qualification
- apply for workplace training in one of our swimming programs, within 6 months of your face-to-face workshop.
Swim teacher workshops generally run from 10 am to 6 pm, with the optional CPR from 8 am to 10 am.

You must reimburse us $170 for the cost of the course if you do not adhere to the terms and conditions.

Workplace training
Participants are required to apply for workplace training with one of our programs within 6 months of attending their face-to-face workshop.
