Subsidised employee housing is available for eligible teachers in most rural, regional and remote locations.
Rent subsidies vary in each location because they usually depend on the distance from major centres. Teachers working in the Remote Teaching Service receive free housing.
If you are eligible, when you’re appointed to a rural, regional or remote school, we cover the cost of relocating your furniture, personal effects and vehicles. We may also reimburse your temporary accommodation if you need it.
Depending on your location and situation, you may also be eligible for allowances to:
- reimburse you for initial utility connection fees
- cover wear and tear on furniture
- subsidise your air conditioning, gas, and vacation travel.

After teaching in the same location for 2 years, you are eligible for relocation support to the Perth Metropolitan area if you resign. You need to meet the qualifying conditions for a return relocation.

Apply for motor vehicle transport
We will transport your vehicle to and from your work location if you work with us in a regional or remote area.
If you are a new or former employee and you don’t have access to the Department’s intranet Ikon, complete the online Motor vehicle transport application. If you are a current employee with access to Ikon, complete the form in Ikon.
You can not save your progress on this form. To make it easier to fill out the form, get the following information ready before you start:
- vehicle details, including the make, model, body type and registration number
- details of where you’d like the vehicle picked up from, and delivered to, including addresses and preferred dates
- details of a contact person for pickup, delivery or both, if you won’t be there at the time, including their name, email address and phone number.
Once we receive your application, we will review it and then contact you with the outcome.
