A new outdoor play space has been unveiled at Beenyup Primary School, targeting students in early childhood years.
Students have welcomed the new area, which is the result of thoughtful planning, creative input, and a strong commitment to continuous improvement under the National Quality Standards.
Beenyup Primary School students are enjoying their new tonka track.
Manager of Corporate Services Teena Hind, Early Childhood Education (ECE) Team Leader Teegan Hind, and the school’s gardener David designed and built the space, that aims to engage young learners in meaningful outdoor play.
Early indications are they were successful.
"They were so excited after our official opening," Teegan said of the student’s reaction.
"They had watched the space come together and couldn’t wait to explore it,”
Staff and parents have also embraced the new space. The ECE team and other staff praised the thoughtful design and its alignment with the school’s educational goals.
The school’s gardener David helped design and build the space.
Parents are thrilled to see their children so engaged and excited to play and learn in the new area.
Teegan said that spaces such as these, are designed to provide more than just fun. She said they play a critical role in early learning.
“Projects like this are essential in early childhood,” she said.
“They encourage imagination, curiosity, and help children develop oral language and social-skill development through play.
“At Beenyup, we value both indoor and outdoor learning environments and are guided by student interests to enhance our educational spaces.”
School gardener, David, played a key role in the design and construction of the space.
“I really enjoyed this project—it gave me the opportunity to use my creative imagination and see the joy it brings to the children,” he said.
