Book-loving alien, Dewey Dex, has returned for this year’s Premier’s Reading Challenge.
Dewey recently brought its intergalactic reading adventure to students in the Midwest region.

Midwest students meeting Dewey in person at the Dewey experience.
As part of its mission to inspire young readers, Dewey visited Geraldton Primary School, St Francis Xavier Primary School and Mount Tarcoola Primary School to deliver The Dewey Experience, a special performance designed to ignite imaginations and foster a love for reading among young students.
Established in 2022, the Premier’s Reading Challenge encourages WA students to read and log more books, with weekly prize incentives.
This year, top students and schools are rewarded for their reading efforts.
Geraldton Primary School Principal, Jade Fallon, said the event was very successful.
“The students were extremely excited to view the Dewey experience,” Ms Fallon said.
“There were squeals of delight as Dewey arrived.
“At Geraldton Primary School, we understand the positive impact of reading on vocabulary, oral language, knowledge base building and writing skills.
“Reading encouraged empathy development and perspective building.”
The Premier’s Reading Challenge ends on June 27.
To complete the challenge, students from kindergarten to Year 10 must read 12 or more books in 12 weeks, while secondary students in Years 11 and 12 must finish six or more books in that time.
This is the first year the challenge has opened to Year 11 and Year 12 students.
It’s not too late to join in, with some great prizes still up for grabs.
