Amalgamation of Westminster schools

Amalgamation of Westminster schools

The Minister for Education and Training, the Hon Sue Ellery MLC, has announced the amalgamation of Westminster Junior Primary School with Westminster Primary School to become one school.

The new school will enrol students from Kindergarten to Year 6 from the beginning of the 2021 school year.

The decision to amalgamate the schools is based on the strong community support following the community consultation process we undertook in 2019.  It will enhance educational outcomes of students by:

  • providing greater consistency across the primary years;
  • removing the transition point between schools in Year 3 and Year 4; and
  • improving access to specialist teachers.

Westminster Education Support Centre will remain as a separate centre and the schools will continue to work together to offer students an inclusive learning environment.

An implementation committee will be formed, led by the Regional Executive Director, North Metropolitan Education Region, to manage the transition process.
