In the news Public school life

Twenty-seven schools from across the state came together on Noongar Boodjar for the first Two-way Science conference.

The two-day event brought together educators to celebrate the importance of Aboriginal knowledge and share how they partner with their communities to develop culturally responsive integrated learning programs. The event included Two-way Science activities, cultural performances, workshops and presentations that showcase the work of schools and communities engaged in the program.

Elders in attendance acknowledged the Department’s commitment to recognise and value Aboriginal knowledge through the Two-way Science Initiative.

Schools and communities celebrate the importance of Two-way learning

The Two-way Science Initiative provides an opportunity for all students to learn about science from the world’s oldest continuing cultures and connects the Western Australian Curriculum Science to Aboriginal knowledges.

The initiative focuses on building understanding and respect for Aboriginal histories, cultures, people, knowledge, and experiences for all students while strengthening wellbeing and learning outcomes for Aboriginal students.
