Students from country WA
Children from country Western Australia with exceptional abilities have access to Gifted and Talented programs.
Children from country Western Australia can access a range of Gifted and Talented Academic, Arts and Languages programs.
Program Options
Students may choose from the following options:
- Selective Academic Program Online
- attend a regional Gifted and Talented school
- study in Perth and board at City Beach Residential College
-
study in Albany and board at Albany Residential College (students must live outside Albany).
Selective Academic Program Online
Students living in country Western Australia can apply for the Selective Academic Program Online.
Using innovative technology and live online learning, students can study:
- Mathematics
- Science
- English
- Humanities and Social Sciences.
Students can access the online program if they attend a public secondary school in a regional area outside Bunbury or Albany.

Residential colleges
Country students offered a place in a Gifted and Talented Secondary Selective program placement may apply to board at
Students who do not qualify for the:
- the Australian Government Assistance for Isolated Children Scheme or,
- a State Government Boarding Away from Home allowance
may be eligible for the Gifted and Talented Boarding away from Home Allowance. In 2026, this allowance was valued up to $1,461.

Gifted and Talented testing
Academic Selective Entrance Test (ASET)
Students in regional Western Australia do not need to travel to Perth to sit the Academic Selective Entrance TEST (ASET). Test venues are arranged within the student’s education region, based on the location of their current school.
Workshops and interviews
Some students may be asked to attend workshops, interviews, or additional assessments in Perth. If a country student cannot travel to Perth, another assessment option will be offered outside Perth. This allows all students to take part fairly in the selection process.
