Regional professional experience

Regional professional experience

If you are a pre-service teacher completing a placement in one of our regional schools you may be eligible for funding and extra support.

You can access funding and support if you are completing a professional experience in the South West, Midwest, Wheatbelt, Goldfields, Pilbara or Kimberley education regions.

The funding is:

  • to help with the costs of relocating while you complete the placement
  • based on your year of study, length of placement and the location of your professional experience.

We also offer funding for psychology professional experience placements.

Before you select a school or region for your professional experience, check that you are eligible to apply.

To be eligible, you must:

  • live in, and plan to start your teaching career in Western Australia
  • be currently enrolled in a course leading to a graduate-level teaching qualification
  • have a course average of 60% or higher.

Funding is available if you are in your final or penultimate year of education study (your third or fourth year of a Bachelor of Education or first or second year of a Master of Teaching). We fund placements that are 4 to 10 weeks in length.

The weekly subsidy rate is $350 for professional experiences in the:

  • Remote Teaching Service (for those in primary teaching, the subsidy is not available in your first year Master of Teaching)
  • Goldfields
  • Kimberley
  • Midwest
  • Pilbara
  • Wheatbelt.
