This World Environment Day, 5 June 2025, students from Woodbridge Primary School are stepping up to raise awareness and drive action on protecting the environment through sustainability projects.
Together, the school’s sustainability committee, and the enthusiastic Waste Wise Warriors (WWW) team, are making a significant effort to lessen their impact on the environment through a colour-coded bin system.

Students have been growing fruit and vege in their garden.
Last year, Woodbridge Primary School introduced the new initiative, with help from a grant from WasteSorted Schools.
The WWW team are highlighting the power of youth-led efforts in combating issues such as plastic pollution and waste management.
Inside each classroom there is now a blue paper recycling bin, a green organics bin, and a red bin for general rubbish. There is also a colour-coded wheelie bin in outdoor eating areas, including white-lidded Containers for Change bins.
Paul Marshall, Principal at Woodbridge Primary School, has been excited to welcome new initiatives that make a positive impact on the environment.
“Introducing this new bin system and our Waste Wise Warriors Team has been a project that truly embraces our motto of aspiring to be the most caring and encouraging community school,” Mr Marshall said.
“We are very proud of our entire school community effort in making this sustainability project so successful.”
As well as implementing recycling initiatives, efforts from those at Woodbridge Primary School are helping to close the gap on organic waste through their kitchen garden.

Any organic waste is recycled through the
through the kitchen garden.
Member of the sustainability committee, Jean Muthukumaraswamy, has allocated one day a fortnight on her timetable to work with students in the garden.
At different times during the day students assist with planting, watering, mulching and harvesting.
