LeBron Newton-Taito has signed with a USA talent agency to help with his rugby career.
FirstPoint USA helps aspiring student athletes from all over the world, be discovered by American college sporting coaches.
The 17-year-old remembered the day when he received a ‘Welcome aboard’ email from FirstPoint USA, offering him an opportunity he couldn’t pass up.
“When I found out that I was signed by the FirstPoint USA talent agency, I was over the moon as it really opened my eyes to all the career possibilities and opportunities,” LeBron said.
“To be able to play rugby in a country that is pushing to grow the sport is really an exciting experience.
“I found out about the agency through one of my teammates while we were on the way to training.
“After that, I think I chewed my dad's ear off about it for a whole week, so it was clear I was adamant on jumping at the opportunity.”
After he completes his final year of high school, Le Bron plans to take a gap year to pursue a career with Perth’s Australian rugby union team, the Western Force, before moving forward with the rugby pathway in the USA.
“In all honesty, I’ve had many different aspirations growing up, but realising the potential that I have has strengthened my dream of one day playing professionally,” LeBron added.
“My school have been amazing in supporting me with the progress and it’s been good to have staff and students that are rooting for you.
“I’d say it gives you that extra push to do and be better.”
Le Bron has played rugby for more than 10 years, in New Zealand and Australia, and currently plays for Arks Rugby Union Football Club in Perth.
