The first stage of a new bush garden recently was unveiled at Baldivis Secondary College, the occasion kicked off with a traditional smoking ceremony led by Aboriginal Elder Michael.
The bush garden will provide a dynamic outdoor learning environment that aim to foster reconciliation, conservation and education.

Baldivis Secondary College has a new bush garden.
The school community, along with Assistant Director of Education, Rohan Smith, assembled in the new outdoor space and enjoyed a morning tea served by the college’s hospitality students.
Students will engage in hands-on learning about native flora alongside local Aboriginal Elders, contributing to the propagation, planting, and maintenance of the woodland as part of the school’s science curriculum.
Baldivis Secondary College Principal, Alison Parolo, said the bush garden is a space where stories will be shared, knowledge passed on, and learning made meaningful.
“As part of this initiative, students will engage in Aboriginal storytelling through art - learning about traditional materials, techniques, and symbols,” Ms Parolo said.
“These creative expressions will enrich their understanding of country and allow them to contribute to a space that celebrates culture, knowledge, and community.

“We look forward to watching this space evolve through the leadership, creativity, and cultural curiosity of our students.”
The project will include the reconfiguration of existing fencing to allow community access, creating a shared space that encourages community involvement and learning opportunities beyond the school environment.
