Students at Roebourne District High School started the new school year in upgraded facilities, following the completion of the school’s $94 million redevelopment.
Located on Ngarluma country, the redevelopment was designed in consultation with the local school community, including Ngarluma, Yindjibarndi and Banyjima language groups.
The upgrades were finished ahead of schedule, which allowed students to start this school year there.

It has been designed to acknowledge Aboriginal culture, foster pride in identity, and create opportunities for staff and students to learn about and respect Aboriginal history, culture and language.
The redevelopment includes a new primary school, a state-of-the-art multipurpose hall for sport and performing arts, science spaces, a cafeteria, a library, administration facilities and a student services hub.
A cultural hub has also been created to support language and cultural programs.
Outdoor areas have been extensively landscaped and include culturally designed yarning circles and a large welcome circle to greet visitors and provide an outdoor venue for performances and presentations.
New playgrounds and car parking areas have also been added to improve accessibility and create welcoming community spaces.

The project was designed by Iredale Pedersen Hook Architects and delivered by ADCO Construction Pty Ltd, with construction beginning in June 2023.
Roebourne District High School is also one of four Western Australian public schools participating in the new Connected Community School trial, which began this term.
At Roebourne, a Student Wellbeing Officer from Anglicare is on site three days a week, and the school is repurposing its former secondary block to establish a Connected Community Hub bringing education, health, wellbeing and community services together.
Other schools participating in the trial are Ashburton Drive Primary School, Clarkson Primary School and Girrawheen Senior High School.
