Connolly Primary School is helping students stay healthy and ready to learn through a partnership with Kinross Pharmacy, bringing convenient healthcare closer to its school community.
The pop-up clinic made it convenient for families to attend together.
The school has hosted optional after-school flu vaccine clinics for students, families and staff, making it easier for busy households to access the service in a familiar setting.
Principal Rebecca Appleton said the initiative was a natural fit for the school and its close-knit community.
"At Connolly Primary School, we have a strong sense of community and many of our families are local," Ms Appleton said.
"We know winter can bring increased illness, so offering an optional flu clinic on site after school felt like a practical way to support families in looking after their health, without adding extra pressure to busy schedules."
The clinics, delivered in partnership with Kinross Pharmacy, have been well supported by the school community and provide families with a convenient option during the busy winter months.
Pharmacist Keiran Batavia said the clinic provided an accessible option for families.
“We’re finding a lot of parents and children struggle to get out to the pharmacy, so making it more accessible allows them to get it done within their routine so it's not a hassle or a chore, rather just a part of their daily workflow,” he said.
For many families, the opportunity to visit the clinic as part of the school pick-up routine has removed the need for extra appointments and travel, while strengthening connections between the school and local businesses.
Connolly Primary School parent Sarah Derby said it was a wonderful initiative.
"I'm doing the school pickup anyway, so it’s wonderful to be able to walk in, have our vaccinations and know that it's done,” she said.
"Especially being a busy parent, where you are thinking about all the appointments you have to book, it's so convenient for us.”
Principal Appleton hopes the partnership will continue to support student and staff wellbeing throughout winter while reinforcing the important role schools play as community hubs.
"It provides a simple and convenient way for families to look after their health during the busy winter period."
