Mia and Harley Grey have entered the Premier’s Reading Challenge Hall of Fame after placing as the top readers in their category for the third consecutive years.
The Premier’s Reading Challenge is an annual competition for all Western Australian students. They are encouraged to read and log books, comics, song lyrics, graphic novels and more.
Hall of Fame inductees Mia and Harley Grey and Helen Tomazin.
Mia was the top reader in the Year 3 to 5 category, while Harley, Mia’s brother, topped the list for the Kindergarten to Year 2 category.
“It felt exciting and special as we are the first kids to reach this milestone, and it also shows the effort we have put in over the years to challenge ourselves to read,” Mia said.
“My favourite part of the challenge is discovering different types of books to read.
“It makes me try different authors and text types which I normally wouldn't reach for.”
Harley said his reading had improved due to taking part in the challenge.
“When my mum told me, I wasn't sure what it meant but then my mum told me, and we read some facts on different hall of fames, and it made me feel super proud and excited,” he said.
“My favourite part of the challenge was when my teacher said my reading was getting so much better at school and this made me feel proud.”
The siblings were awarded their Hall of Fame trophies at a presentation event where they celebrated with the other winners.
Helen Tomazin from Good Shepard Catholic School was also entered into the Hall of Fame for her efforts as a challenge champion.
