Greenwood College’s cheer team claimed first place in their division at the Australian All Star Cheerleading Federation (AASCF) Nationals, in Melbourne.

They were also awarded Overall Grand Champions for receiving the highest score of any school team across all divisions.

Greenwood College’s cheer team won at the Australian All Star Cheerleading Federation (AASCF) Nationals.

The AASCF Nationals are one of the country’s largest cheer and dance competitions, with top school teams from across Australia participating.

Greenwood’s dance teacher and cheer coach Meg Rudman said the win came after months of commitment, including “many before school early morning sessions as well as weekend trainings and even sessions in the school holidays.”

She praised the Year 12 students who continued training after finishing school.

“We all gave up a lot of our own time, but the hard work paid off,” she said

“The best part of the experience was watching them gain confidence, independence, and building a greater sense of school pride, and representing the school on a national stage.”

Students spent months practising for the event.

Dance program coordinator Kelly Merrin said the victory was shared by the whole community.

“Earning the highest national scores in both cheer and dance is an achievement that celebrates the talent of our teams and the strength of our school community,” she said.

The team used the trip to Melbourne as an opportunity to bond.
