Teacher appointment and transfer for 2024
Teacher appointment and transfer for 2024
We have changed the way we appoint and transfer teaching staff in our metropolitan schools for the start of 2024. The changes apply to fixed-term (temporary) appointments in metropolitan schools, between 8 December 2023 and 9 February 2024.
The start of each new school year is an important time for students, staff, and the wider school community. Our preparedness to welcome students makes a difference in their school experience. A core part of this preparedness is teacher stability, which is why we have made some changes to appointments in metropolitan schools for the start of the 2024 school year.
The changes will not change appointments to permanent positions.
In 2024, the movement of teachers between schools should only occur during the term break, unless arranged to suit both schools. This gives students continuity until the end of the term and minimises disruption to students and staff.
- Permanent teachers, including graduates
- Teachers on a fixed-term (temporary) contract, including graduates
- Teachers not yet engaged in a teaching contract for 2024

- have your substantive, permanent position held for you.
This is for all fixed-term positions, even if you applied through a merit selection process.
