Culturally responsive schools

Culturally responsive schools

During these challenging times, the safety and wellbeing of all staff and all students in our schools is our top priority.

We are committed to increasing our focus on creating culturally responsive environments and strengthening the cultural identity and wellbeing of Aboriginal students in our schools.

Building on strength in uncertain times: In this together provides messages for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, parents and community members about these challenging times. It models the importance of relationships to country, culture and family, and the significance of connection during times of uncertainty.

The messages contained in the video are relevant to all school communities and highlight the 2020 National Reconciliation Week theme, In this together, which particularly resonates at this time.

The video is narrated by the our Elders in Residence – Emeritus Professor Colleen Hayward AM and Ian Trust, as well as senior Aboriginal staff – Paulina Motlop and Kevin O’Keefe.
