Grant for pre-service teachers in education support

A $5,000 grant is available to final-year pre-service teachers working as education assistants in education support settings in public schools.

The new grant has been announced to help support pre-service teachers working in education support settings and completing a teaching qualification. We want to support our staff to finish their course and stay in education support settings.

To receive the grant as a one-off payment, pre-service teachers must be working as education assistants (EAs) in a public school in 2024. They need to be working in education support settings, EAs in these settings are encouraged to apply. For maximum benefit and a deeper understanding of an education support context it is recommended EAs are working:

• at least 0.4 full-time equivalent (FTE)
• for a minimum of 2 school terms.

Pre-service teachers employed in public schools working in an education support setting can apply for the grant through the Department’s intranet, Ikon.
