Teaching opportunities for pre-service teachers
Final year pre-service teachers can access the Casual Teacher Pool and Public School Teaching Pathway program to teach in public schools across the state.
Casual Teacher Pool
Pre-service teachers in their final year of study can apply to our Casual Teacher Pool and work in public schools across WA. Casual and relief work can range from 3 hours to 4 weeks depending on your availability.
Eligibility criteria
To become a pre-service casual teacher you must:
- be eligible to work in Australia
- have a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC)
- be in your final year of education study at an Australian university
- show proof of completed professional experiences
- fill in and attach the Application for Limited Registration to your Casual Teacher Pool application.
Once your Limited Registration is granted by TRBWA you will be given access to the Casual Staff Seeker tool to create a profile and update your availability and preferences. Schools can then contact you regarding casual teaching opportunities.

Teaching opportunities for pre-service teachers - Public School Teaching Pathway program
Public School Teaching Pathway program
The Public School Teaching Pathway program is an employment-based pathway into secondary teaching. Pre-service secondary teachers can complete their final year of study whilst teaching part-time in a public secondary school under the guidance of an experienced school mentor.
Eligibility criteria
To be considered you must:
- be eligible to work in Australia
- have a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC)
- fill in the application form, provide a university letter of endorsement, practicum final assessment report(s), current academic transcripts and two referees.
- be in your final year of education study at a participating university:
- Curtin University
- Edith Cowan University
- Murdoch University
- University of Notre Dame Australia
- University of Western Australia
