Members of the inaugural WA Student Council have come together for the first time to set their goals and priorities for 2023.
Thirty eight of our brightest young leaders from across the state met in person for the first time as part of a three-day leadership camp at Point Walter.

Students came from as far afield as Christmas Island and Fitzroy Crossing to share their ideas, with all regions represented.
Perth Modern student Kele Readhead relished the chance to share ideas with his fellow student representatives from across the state.
“It’s been great,” Kele said. “We’ve been getting to know each other, working through leadership modules, and just having a great time, really, discussing the topics we feel passionately about.
“It’s been a really constructive camp.”
The council provides a platform for the student ambassadors to represent themselves and their peers, and to have their say in education policy. The 2022-23 council was appointed in September last year.
During the camp, the students identified priorities for the council in 2023. They also visited the Parliament of Western Australia, Dumas House and the Department of Education’s East Perth office.
“The camp was an amazing opportunity,” Morawa District High School’s Peta Humphreys said.
“It was great to meet my fellow councillors and to discuss student ideas and concerns.

“I'd like to express my thanks to everyone who made this camp possible, it was certainly the experience of a lifetime.
“It is an honour to represent the Midwest region and students all over Western Australia."
The council will continue to meet throughout the year.
