Students at Kent Street Senior High School celebrated NAIDOC Week 2025 with engaging activities.

NAIDOC Week (6 July - 13 July) is an annual celebration that kicks off in the first week of July and recognises and celebrates the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Students took part in various NAIDOC Week events including bracelet making.

Australians are encouraged to learn about the rich cultures of First Nations peoples.

Students kicked off the commemorations with the annual NAIDOC award assembly, honouring outstanding contributions to Indigenous culture and community.

Other activities included face painting sessions and bracelet making led by student councillors - using art and storytelling to share history in a fun way, fostering creativity and connection.

Hospitality students cooked up kangaroo stew and damper for lunch, which offered students a taste of traditional Indigenous cuisine.

The week ended with a competitive game of Australian football, where staff took on the students, on the school oval, which encouraged teamwork and school spirit.

Kent Street Senior High School Principal, Kacey Single, said the school is proud to celebrate the achievements, culture, and history of First Nations peoples.

“NAIDOC Week is important to our school community because it gives us a chance to come together to respect and honour the rich heritage,” she said.

“We are proud of how our community came together this NAIDOC Week and look forward to continuing to celebrate, learn, and grow – keeping the strength and spirit of First Nations culture alive at Kent Street all year round.”

Kent Street Senior High School's NAIDOC Week activities finished with a football game where staff took on the students.

This year’s theme for NAIDOC Week 2025 is “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy”.
