Reward and recognition Public school life

The first cohort of Shenton College students to participate in a life-changing program for their entire secondary schooling have graduated.

Shenton College runs the Polly Farmer Foundation Follow the Dream program from Year 7 to Year 12.

This year marks the first time Shenton College students have graduated after taking part in the Polly Farmer Foundation Follow the Dream program from Year 7 to Year 12.

The program was initially offered at the school for Years 10 to 12 students but has since expanded to also include Years 7 to 9.

Three students in the cohort completed the ATAR pathway, all achieving a score above 91.

Shenton College principal Michael Morgan said working alongside organisations such as the Polly Farmer Foundation allowed school staff to provide targeted academic support, mentoring, cultural connection and aspiration-building opportunities that extend well beyond the classroom.

“These partnerships help ensure students are not only supported to achieve academically, but are also known, valued and connected to pathways that reflect their strengths and ambitions,” he said.

“At Shenton College, the strength of our work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students is built on partnership, culture and shared responsibility.

“Follow the Dream’s success has always rested on strong collaboration between schools, families, mentors and agencies who bring expertise, advocacy and high expectations for young people.

“When partnerships like Follow the Dream operate within a genuinely inclusive school culture, students are better positioned to thrive academically, socially and personally, and to see themselves as capable, connected and future-focused learners.”
