Como Secondary College student Shayne Lumsden had the dream end to his high school career, sinking the shot every golfer dreams of: a hole-in-one.
Shayne celebrates his hole-in-one.
The incredible moment was made even more special because it came during Shayne's last round as part of the school's Golf Specialist Program.
And it was all caught on camera.
With odds of around 12,500 to one, many golfers spend a lifetime hoping to score an ace, but it became a reality for Shayne on the fifth hole at Collier Park Golf Course.
"It's amazing. I actually couldn't have asked for a better finish, honestly," he said.
"Seeing all my friends running up to me afterwards, I couldn't believe it."
Adding to the day's good fortune, all the action at the hole was being filmed by GLFN, an automated golf media platform that uses tracking technology and a permanent camera system to capture footage.
Como Secondary College specialist golf teacher-in-charge Jamie Warman described Shayne's perfectly struck shot as "crazily impressive".
"But what happened next was even better," he said.
The cameras placed near the tee and overlooking the green not only caught the shot, they also filmed the jubilation of Shayne's fellow students who giddily celebrated his achievement with him.
Despite the odds of ever getting one hole-in-one, remarkably, this was 18-year-old Shayne’s second, his first coming at his home course, Rockingham Golf Course last year.
Shayne joined Como Secondary College's specialist golf program in Year 8.
It is the only one of its kind offered in a WA public school and boasts several champions among its graduates, including Hannah Green who has won 17 professional titles.
Most of the students in the program go on to careers in the golf industry.
