Reward and recognition

Treeby Primary School Year 5 student, Nate, is knocking it out of the park, literally, on the tee-ball diamond.

Nate helped his team, the Byford Bushrangers, to secure an impressive second place, while also earning Western Australia representation for the under-11s Tee-Ball State Championships.

It was his third year being selected in the state squad.

Nate is in his fifth season playing for the Byford Bushrangers, recently reaching an amazing 300-game milestone.

He loves the sport and also being a part of the Bushrangers.

"Playing as a team and making new friends is what I enjoy most," he said.

"Everyone supports each other and has fun.

"It’s awesome getting to improve my skills each game, celebrate wins together, and just enjoy being out on the field with my teammates."

Nate recalled one of his standout moments from the championships, which came during a crucial play in the field.

"Stopping the ball from going out behind first, when I was way out in right field," he said.

"If I hadn’t stopped it, it would have advanced the other team’s players around the diamond."

Nate encourages other children to give tee-ball a try.

"Give it a go!" he said.

"Tee-ball is really fun, and you don’t have to be amazing to start. Everyone is learning, and your teammates and coaches help you along the way."

Anyone interested in playing tee-ball can find a club through the Tee-ball WA website.
