Full-time Kindergarten pilot

Full-time Kindergarten pilot

The full-time Kindergarten pilot will expand in 2027, with 5 additional schools joining the pilot, to support young learners and their families in Western Australia.

The trial started in 2026 at the following schools in both regional and metropolitan WA:

  • Banksia Grove Primary School
  • Dalyellup Primary School
  • Halidon Primary School
  • Roleystone Community College
  • South Kalgoorlie Primary School.

The 5 additional schools that will be joining the pilot in 2027 are:

  • Bambara Primary School
  • Clifton Park Primary School
  • Comet Bay Primary School
  • One Arm Point Remote Community School
  • Peg’s Creek Primary School.

Children at pilot schools will benefit from full-time play-based early learning. Play is one of the most effective ways young children learn and is essential for healthy development in the early years

Full-time Kindergarten will provide the opportunity for children to build confidence, resilience, creativity, language skills and social-emotional skills to help ease their transition into full-time school.

The pilot seeks to improve learning outcomes for children by providing access to play-based Kindergarten 5 days a week.

Kindergarten will remain non-compulsory, and schools will work with families on the best transition to full-time school for their child.

The pilot is being coordinated by the Office of Early Childhood in consultation with the Department of Education, schools and communities.
