A Perth primary school teacher who blends expert classroom practice with visionary leadership and a strong commitment to cultural inclusion has been named teacher of the year.

Grandis Primary School teacher Christopher Lambe has been awarded the Minister’s Teacher of the Year award at the WA Education Awards 2025.

With more than 23 years of experience in science and technology education, Mr Lambe was recognised for his innovative teaching methods, including inquiry-based learning, STEM integration, and culturally responsive approaches that incorporate Indigenous knowledge.

He has also developed advanced science programs and created impactful resources, such as the ‘Science with Mr Lambe’ video series.

His leadership in science education and community engagement, including his work with the Fathering Project, has transformed learning experiences and fostered a positive school culture.

When accepting the award, Mr Lambe thanked his colleagues, family and all those who shaped his journey in education, giving a special shout-out to the lessons he learnt from leaders along the way.

"Underpinning everything that you do, learning must be fun," he said.

"It is one of the things that has shaped me as a teacher more than anything else. If it shapes you in the room and if that word fun is something you still keep going, you are going to have kids wanting to learn for the rest of their lives."

Reflecting on his win, Mr Lambe acknowledged the incredible work happening in classrooms all across WA.

"As long as those teachers are in those classrooms, we have got a bright future for those kids. Those kids they teach you more than anyone else," he said.

"I really, really appreciate this huge honour.

"It's a privilege to know there are chalkies out there doing a really good job and are making a huge impact on our world.

"Can I dedicate this to every teacher who doesn't get recognised. Well done to every single person in this room, to every single person who fronts up.

"It is the best job in the world. I will continue doing this until they kick me out, I think. I really appreciate the honour. Thank you for everything that you do."

The Minister’s Teacher of the Year category is new for the 2025 awards program.
