Community consultation on Westminster schools

Community consultation on Westminster schools

The State Government is undertaking a consultation to hear the views of the Westminster community on the future of public primary school education in Westminster.

In particular, if the community supports the combining of Westminster Junior Primary School and Westminster Primary School to form one school.

Westminster Junior Primary School (Kindergarten to Year 3), Westminster Primary School (Years 4 to 6), and Westminster Education Support Centre (Kindergarten to Year 6) are located on the one site in Westminster, but are three separate schools.

The students from Westminster Junior Primary School currently need to enrol at Westminster Primary School or another school for Years 4 to 6. These are the only remaining public schools operating like this in the State.

The preferred model of primary schooling in Western Australian public schools is Kindergarten to Year 6. A Kindergarten to Year 6 school removes the need for students to change schools and allows continuity of their learning through the primary school.

Westminster Education Support Centre enrols students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and wishes to continue as a separate school.

Parents/carers, school staff and community members were invited to have their say by attending information sessions and/or completing a survey. The survey has now closed.

The findings are being collated and will inform any decisions made.
