Final year pre-service teachers can access the Casual Teacher and Pre-Service Teacher Fixed Term pools to teach in public schools across the state.

Casual Teacher Pool

Pre-service teachers in their final year of study can apply to our Casual Teacher Pool and work in public schools across WA. Casual and relief work can range from 3 hours to 4 weeks depending on your availability.

Once the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA) grants your limited registration, you will be given access to the casual staff seeker tool to create a profile and update your availability and preferences. Schools can then contact you regarding casual teaching opportunities.

Pre-Service Teacher Fixed Term Pool

Pre-service teachers in the final year of an early childhood, primary, or secondary teaching qualification can apply for the opportunity to teach part-time in 2024.

If appointed from these pools (up to 0.8 full-time equivalent) you will have access to professional learning and school-based support, as well as study leave if you undertake a professional experience during your appointment. In addition to your salary, allowances will be paid in some locations.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible to apply you must:

  • be eligible to work in Australia
  • have a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC)
  • be in your final year of education study at an Australian university
  • have successfully completed your most recent professional experience
  • have achieved the test standard for literacy and numeracy in the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students (LANTITE).
