After being first introduced to the sport at the age of four, Skye has gone from strength to strength, representing Australia around the world, claiming both national and international titles.
Talent runs in the family, with Skye’s brother and former Coodanup College student, Zeke Branson, also an upcoming Muay Thai superstar.
Coodanup College Principal Mark Utley said the dedicated pair were exceptional students, able to balance the significant demands of their sport with their academic responsibilities while also achieving outstanding results in both.
“At our school, one of our core values is ‘We will be proud,’ and as their principal, I am incredibly proud to follow their journey and celebrate their achievements,” Mr Utley said.
On juggling school and Muay Thai, Skye says it can be challenging, but after 12 years, it has now become the norm.
“Whenever I feel like I’m too tired to train, I remember that it's a privilege that I'm able to go to school and to training,” she said.
“I don’t have to go, I get to go, which motivates me to succeed more at both.”
Following Muay Thai being a demonstration sport at the 2024 Paris Olympics, it is actively being promoted for inclusion in the 2032 Brisbane Games which would be the perfect opportunity for the siblings to shine together on an international stage.
“What I love most about my sport is the community it creates. Yes, it is a combat sport, but it is a community full of love and support,” Skye said.
“Most fighters have great sportsmanship and camaraderie, and I have made many new friends, meeting people all over the world with the same passion, through my sport.
“No matter where you’re from, once you start, Muay Thai is life.”
