A Bayswater Primary School student has been recognised on the national stage for her tireless advocacy and compassion for animals.
Hannah received the Australian Alliance for Animals Young Political Advocacy Award.
Ten-year-old Hannah Danesfaleh was awarded the Australian Alliance for Animals Young Political Advocacy Award, honouring her sustained grassroots efforts to improve the welfare of greyhounds.
The award was presented in Sydney at the annual awards night hosted by the Animal Justice Foundation, celebrating individuals making a meaningful impact for animals through education, advocacy and community engagement.
Hannah has been volunteering with Free the Hounds since the age of five, advocating for the end of greyhound racing.
Her advocacy has taken many forms, from school visits, library talks and community markets, to meetings with ministers and gathering petition signatures.
As part of her advocacy, Hannah wrote and published her first children’s book, Georgia the grey comes home to stay, sharing the story of her rescued greyhound, Georgia.
The book introduces young readers to Georgia’s journey, from racing dog to beloved family pet, while raising funds for greyhound rescue organisations.
Hannah wrote Georgia the grey comes home to stay about her rescued pet greyhound.
Hannah spoke of becoming a published author at the age of nine.
“It felt amazing, like I had done something important,” she said.
“When I read my book to other kids at school, I hope it inspires them to believe in themselves too.”
Hannah has also been recognised with an RSPCA Animal Welfare Award, further acknowledging the impact of her work.
“Find something you truly care about and use your creativity to inspire change. You are never too young to change the world,” she said.
