Teacher registration

Teacher registration

To teach in a WA public school, you must register with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia.

All teachers must be registered with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA). This includes relief teachers and teachers moving to WA from overseas.

TRBWA regulates the teaching profession in Western Australia. They assess whether a person meets the requirements for teacher registration. They also maintain a register of teachers approved to teach in WA schools.

To find out about qualification requirements for registration, visit the TRBWA website.

In some circumstances, teachers with a 3-year teaching qualification may still be eligible to teach in a WA public school under ‘limited registration’. If you are unsure about your employment eligibility, contact Teach in WA for advice by phone at (08) 9264 4127 or email at TeachInWA@education.wa.edu.au.

If you hold a current teacher registration in New Zealand and want to teach in WA, you may be eligible for mutual recognition of registration. Visit the TRBWA website for information about mutual recognition.

To work with us, you need to meet our employment eligibility requirements. If you are a qualified teacher moving to WA from overseas, you need the correct visa type and working rights. Check out our information for overseas qualified teachers
