Special education per capita funding
Special education per capita funding is allocated to non-government schools for eligible students with special education and high support needs.
The rates vary according to the level of disability assessed for each student. The rates are outlined in the 2019 Special Education funding rates.
Definitions and a classification process are used to assess the eligibility of students.
In order to receive funding, non-government schools are required to apply to their relevant sector body.
Committees formed by the Association of Independent Schools Western Australia Inc (for independent schools) and the Catholic Education Western Australia (for Catholic schools) collect and validate data relating to students with special education and high support needs.
The committees assess a student's particular level of disability using a points system, observation, deliberation and professional advice.
Non-government school funding
Registered non-government schools that operate on a not-for-profit basis may qualify for various forms of financial assistance.
Twice a year, all schools in Western Australia are requested to submit student data to the Department.
Low interest loan scheme
The low interest loan scheme assists non-government schools with capital development projects.
