Offers of placement
Offers of placement
After your child receives their ASET performance report, they may receive an offer of placement. To secure a place in a Gifted and Talented program, you must respond to the offer by the stated deadline.
How to respond to an offer
All offers are sent by email from the Gifted and Talented Selection Unit (GTSU).
You must reply by email to gtsu@education.wa.edu.au, by the deadline in the offer email. Do not reply to the school.
If you do not respond by the deadline, the offer will be withdrawn.
How the offers process works
Refer to our informative video to understand how the offers process works.
Round 1 offers
We will email Round 1 offers for all programs in late June 2026.
You will have the following options to respond to your child's offer.
Accept
- Choosing 'Accept' in Round 1 means no further placement offers will be made for Gifted and Talented Programs for 2027.
- You must enrol your child by the deadline given by the school
- if your child is not enrolled by the deadline, the placement will be cancelled and offered to the next ranked student.
Overseas and interstate applicants
Families living outside Western Australia will be contacted by the Gifted and Talented Selection Unit (GTSU).
Residency eligibility must be confirmed before enrolling at the school.
Decline
Choosing 'Decline' means you do not want this offer. The preference will be removed.
If the offer is not your first preference, your child will still be considered for higher preferences in Round 2.
Withdraw
Choosing ‘Withdraw’ means you are no longer interested in any Gifted and Talented program.
Your child will not be considered for any future offers for 2027.
Hold (Round 1 only)
You can choose ‘Hold’ only if the offer is not your first preference.
Holding an offer keeps it active while your child is considered for higher preferences in Round 2.
If your child receives a higher preference offer, the Round 1 offer will be given to another student. If not, the original Round 1 offer will remain.
Round 2 offers
Round 2 offers will be emailed in late July 2026.
Round 2 includes:
- places not filled in Round 1
- places available due to score changes after remark appeals.
There is no hold option in Round 2.
Accept – No reserve
- Accepting means no further offers will be made.
- You must enrol by the school deadline
- if you do not enrol by the deadline, the placement will be withdrawn.
Accept - Yes reserve
- This option is for families who accept an offer but want to stay on the reserve list for higher preferences.
- You must still enrol by the deadline
- if you do not enrol, you will lose both the place and your reserve list position.
Decline
Declining removes this preference from your application.
If the offer is not your first preference, your child may be placed on reserve lists for higher preferences.
Withdraw
Withdraw means your child will not be considered for any further offers or reserve lists for 2027.
Unsuccessful notifications
Students who did not receive an offer in Round 1 or Round 2 will be notified by email by early August.
Reserve lists
Reserve lists stay active until 1 December.
If places become available, offers will be made to the next eligible student by email. Families usually have up to 48 hours to respond.
Students will be placed on a reserve list if:
- the program is listed in their preferences, and
- they meet the minimum requirements.
Any places not filled will be offered again in the next intake year.
Note:
Entry points are Year 7, then years 9, 10 and 11. Students may apply again in later years.
Change in circumstances
If your child cannot take up an accepted place, contact the:
- Gifted and Talented Selection Unit (GTSU) by email at gtsu@education.wa.edu.au
- school.
Accepting a place your child does not intend to take does not improve reserve list chances. It also prevents another child from receiving the offer.
