Casual teaching process

Casual teaching process

Casual teachers play an important role in schools, teaching students when their regular teacher is unavailable.

Casual, or relief, teaching refers to casual teaching work in a public school for less than 20 consecutive days. Individual schools are responsible for employing casual teachers, when required.

If you are interested in working with us as a casual teacher, please read the information below and submit your application to the Casual Teacher Pool.

Confirm you are eligible

To teach in a Western Australian public school, including relief teaching, you must have a recognised tertiary teaching degree. Check the eligibility criteria to ensure you meet the requirements to teach in a Western Australian public school. All staff must have a Screening Clearance Number prior to starting work.

Apply to the Casual Teacher Pool

Our public schools are transitioning to a new centrally supported booking system for casual teaching staff.

To access this system and set up your profile you will need to apply to our new Casual Teacher Pool.

You will be asked to provide information about your qualifications and eligibility to work before you are provided log in details for the new system.

Not all schools will immediately use the new system. Check with your local school about their preferred process, including how you can let them know about your availability and if they accept resumes directly.

Set up your Casual Staff Seeker profile

Once you have been processed and accepted in to the Casual Teacher Pool you will receive your log in details and further information on how to access and set up your profile.

You will now be eligible to work in public schools across the state and be able to personalise your profile to suit your location, availability and teaching preferences.

You can find out more about individual schools by visiting Schools Online.
