Students at Nannup District High School welcomed popular Gardening Australia host Costa Georgiadis back to their school as part of the 2026 Nannup Flower and Garden Festival.

Costa shared his passion for gardening, sustainability and the environment.

During his second visit to the school, Costa spent much more time than scheduled with students from Kindergarten to Year 11, sharing his passion for gardening, sustainability and the environment.

Early Childhood students enjoyed reading the Costa’s Garden books with the ABC television personality, while secondary students undertaking Big Picture Learning, which focuses on student interests outside of school, discussed their sustainability, gardening and environmental projects.

Students also shared plans to transform a neglected section of the school grounds into an outdoor learning space, developed in partnership with school gardener Ray Barnett.

The idea grew from a conversation Mr Barnett had with Costa during his first visit to the school. It has since developed into a student-led project that will create new opportunities for learning outside the classroom.

Nannup District High School Principal Leonie Creagh said the visit reinforced the value of authentic, hands-on learning experiences.

"Costa's passion for sustainability, creativity and community has inspired our students to think differently about their natural and built environment and their capacity to create positive change,” she said.

“The outdoor learning space project is a reflection of student voice, collaboration and the power of learning beyond the classroom."

Costa discussed returning to Nannup District High School to work alongside students as the project moves into its next phase.

The project is giving students an opportunity to turn their ideas into action while building connections with their school, community and environment.
