Award finalist driven to make a difference

An education assistant’s dedication to supporting students, families and staff has been recognised in the Department’s 2026 Women of Achievement Award.

Jeanette (Jenny) Brown, who works at Gosnells Primary School, was honoured to be one of the five finalists.

“I am feeling incredibly overwhelmed and deeply honoured to be not only nominated, but also named a finalist,” she said.

“There are so many amazing women working in education who are truly deserving of this recognition.

“This nomination is not just for me, but for the incredible education assistants, principal, deputy principals and teachers I have the privilege of working alongside every day.

“Without such a supportive and dedicated team, who always put children first and support me in doing my job, none of this would be possible.”

2026 will be the 27th year of Jenny's career as an education assistant.

“All I have ever wanted is to make a difference,” she said.

“So many children today need extra support and have so much happening in their young lives."

Jenny has developed programs such as the Little Learners Program, which has been supporting young children and families for more than 10 years. The program strengthens early learning by preparing children and their parents for school.

“When they feel supported, know there is someone they can rely on, and experience genuine care and compassion, it helps them become the best they can be and truly engage in their learning,” Jenny said.

Jenny was also recognised nationally last year when she was announced as the 2025 Australian Teacher Aide of the Year.

The Director General’s Women of Achievement Award winner will be announced at the International Women’s Day breakfast on Thursday 5 March, where attendees will hear from special guest Liz Ellis.
