Ellenbrook Secondary College student Charlotte Tooby is about to take part in a special Anzac experience, flying to Canberra to attend the Dawn Service at the Australian War Memorial.
The Year 11 student made history, becoming the first Police Ranger Cadet to be awarded the Bill Collidge Spirit of Anzac Award at the 2026 RSLWA Cadet of the Year Awards.
Ellenbrook Secondary College student Charlotte Tooby was awarded the Bill Collidge Spirit of Anzac Award.
L to R: Inspector June Tairua, Geoff Harvey (Unit Coordinator), SGT Matthew Sharp, Commander Levinia Hugo and Charlotte Tooby.
The award reflects the values that define service, being courage, duty, and a commitment to something greater than oneself.
One of four winners, Charlotte will travel to Canberra later this month for Anzac Day, where she will attend the Dawn Service, lay a wreath at the Last Post Ceremony, visit military museums and memorials, and march in the National Anzac Day Parade alongside Army Cadets.
The award is recognition of Charlotte’s leadership, dedication, and respect for service.
“I think it’s extremely important for the spirit of Anzac to continue being remembered by our young people. It's an honourable thing to be a part of an Anzac ceremony,” she said.
“It is a respectful time where you can learn about your family’s past and remember everyone, past and present, who have fought for our freedom, allowing us young people to be free to express ourselves.
“This is an extraordinary opportunity that will allow me to expand my knowledge, make new friends and share new experiences with the other cadet winners.”
Charlotte Tooby will attend the Canberra Dawn Service at the Australian War Memorial.
The Dawn Service will be broadcast live from the Australian War Memorial on ABC TV and ABC iView from 3:30 am AWST.
