Reward and recognition

Gilmore College student Prince George continues to stand tall on the national netball stage.

The Year 11 who plays for West Coast Thunder, recently competed in the 2026 Men’s and Mixed Netball National Championships in the 17, held at WA’s Gold Netball Centre in Wembley.

Prince is a contracted training partner with Peel Lightning Men's Netball Team.

The talented shooter finished second on the goals-scoring table for the tournament, with a staggering 228 goals from seven games. He got WA’s campaign off to a flier, with 41 goals in a 63-37 win over South Australia. Queensland’s Kaed-Michael Alloway scored 244 goals, but did play one extra game.

WA went through the qualifying rounds unbeaten, with wins over Tasmania, New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria.

Prince said that two-goal win over the eventual champion, Victoria was a highlight.

“Our under-17s boys went undefeated through the normal rounds but missed out in the last two finals because of injuries,” he said.

“We just missed out on making it to the grand final.

“It felt like a lot of support and love from our friends and family, which helped us on court a lot.

“I love meeting and making new friends from other states and playing against boys so powerful, tall like me, if not taller, and fast.

“I just love the sport so much.

“I can’t wait for the next trials at the end of the year to hopefully get the chance to compete again next year in Sydney.”

A wounded WA lost to Victoria in the first final (48-44), and were then bundled out of the competition by Queensland (49-40) in the preliminary final.

Victoria beat Queensland comfortably, 70-58, in the final.

This was the third year that Prince played for West Coast Thunder.

He has been playing netball since he was 10 years old, mainly in the goal shooter and goal attack positions, where he clearly excels.

He continues training with the newly-formed Peel Lightning Men’s Netball team, where he is a contracted training partner.
