Final year pre-service teachers can access the Casual Teacher and Pre-Service Teacher Fixed Term pools to teach in public schools across the state.

Casual Teacher Pool

Pre-service teachers in their final year of study can apply to our Casual Teacher Pool and work in public schools across WA. Casual and relief work can range from 3 hours to 4 weeks depending on your availability.

Once the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA) grants your limited registration, you will be given access to the casual staff seeker tool to create a profile and update your availability and preferences. Schools can then contact you regarding casual teaching opportunities.

Teaching opportunities for pre-service teachers - Pre-Service Teacher Fixed Term Pool

Pre-Service Teacher Fixed Term Pool

Pre-service teachers in their final year of a primary, secondary or education support teaching qualification have the opportunity to work in a fixed-term position in a public school. As a fixed-term pre-service teacher, you can teach part-time (up to 0.8FTE) with limited registration while completing your final year of study. You will be provided additional school-based support and gain early access to the our Graduate Teacher Program learning modules. Depending on location, you may receive additional allowances and access to paid study leave while you undertake your professional experience.

Eligibility criteria

To become a pre-service fixed-term teacher you must:

  • be eligible to work in Australia
  • have a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC)
  • be in your final year of education study at an Australian university
  • show proof of completed professional experiences
  • provide Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students (LANTITE) test result statements.
