The way that Floreat Park Primary School is building a professional learning culture has gained international attention.
Earlier this year, a film crew from Apple Education in the United States visited the school to capture just how the school’s teachers do just that.
Deputy Principal Matthew Wright is the Apple Distinguished Educator at Floreat Park Primary School.
The resulting short film highlights how staff coaching is embedded in their practice, supporting teachers to use technology purposefully so that students become creators, not just consumers of digital tools.
Floreat Park Primary School was one of only six schools worldwide selected to feature in Apple’s global Apple Learning Coach story, showcasing the power of collaboration, professional learning and evidence-informed teaching.
The school currently has five Apple Learning Coaches on staff, each specialising in key focus areas: early childhood, safe online learning, accessibility and supporting students with special educational needs, creation, and leadership.
“There is growing wider community concern about the place of technology in young people’s lives,” said Deputy Principal and Apple Distinguished Educator, Matthew Wright.
“Recognising our school in this context helps show that when technology use is guided by strong instructional leadership and clear expectations, it can be a positive force.
“We want our students to use technology to create, collaborate and take ownership of their learning, not as passive consumers.
“We want parents to feel confident that their children are developing balanced, healthy habits and that technology is only one part of a broader approach to authentic, connected and contemporary learning.”
This recognition represents a proud moment for the Floreat Park community and stands as a testament to the school’s dedication to continuous improvement.
"Being featured has given us a platform to share our work with other schools and system leaders, which supports our aim of being a centre of innovation while grounded in strong instructional leadership and adult learning,” said Mr Wright.
“The film shows that the work happening in our school is grounded in collaboration. When teachers grow together, students thrive!”
