Animals can enrich students’ learning experiences, however schools must adhere to consistent and high quality practices for the care and use of animals. Staff are to adhere to the processes of the Schools Animal Ethics Committee for the use of animals for any scientific teaching activity and/or adhere to the processes of Agricultural Education for the use of animals on school farms.

The Curriculum Assessment and Reporting in Public Schools Policy and Procedures set out the requirements that schools need to meet in planning their curriculum, assessment and reporting practices. The Policy and Procedures are aligned to the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline.

Department of Education projects and programs need to have appropriate monitoring and evaluation activity. Evaluations, reviews, pilots or trials are distinct from systematic ongoing monitoring and reporting and require special reporting activity. The Program Governance Group considers the Department’s activity in these areas on a regular basis.
