Clarinet

Clarinet

What to consider of when purchasing a clarinet:

  • Students need a type Bb clarinet.
  • A wooden clarinet is recommended, however a good quality plastic clarinet is also suitable for beginner students.
  • The mouthpiece does not have to be the same brand as the clarinet. Your teacher can recommend suitable brands for mouthpieces.

If you are purchasing a second-hand instrument:

  • you may need to replace the mouthpiece. Check for chips, splits and indentations.
  • check there are no cracks in a wooden clarinet. You may need to have an expert check the instrument as they can be hard to detect.

Once your child has committed to the music program, you need to make sure your child has all the necessary equipment they need.

Your child will be provided with a student music journal and you need to provide:

  • a tutor book for school

  • a suitable case
  • accessories such as reeds, strings, rosin, cleaning products
  • repairs and maintenance on owned instruments.

Some schools may also charge a small fee to cover costs associated with the program.
