All students applying for Gifted and Talented Secondary Selective Entrance Programs must sit the Academic Selective Entrance Test (ASET).

Students applying for:

  • academic programs are offered a place based on the results of the Academic Selective Entrance Testing (ASET) only
  • arts programs have to complete the ASET and an audition or workshop. Students may also be required to participate in an interview
  • language programs are placed on the results of the ASET and will also be required to participate in an interview.

The ASET is made up of four components:

  • reading comprehension
  • communicating ideas in writing
  • quantitative reasoning
  • abstract reasoning.

The tests are designed to identify students most suited for our Gifted and Talented Secondary Selective Entrance Programs. They identify a student’s potential, rather than acquired knowledge. We do not endorse nor recommend any form of private professional coaching or tutoring services.

Sample tests

These sample tests provided are aimed at Year 6 students, however the format is comparable for later years.

These sample tests are provided as a guide to help applicants feel more comfortable with the test process as well as the:

  • format of the test
  • types of questions asked
  • what the answer sheet looks like.

Results of sample tests do not show how an applicant will score in the ASET and consideration will not be given for scores on sample tests or any other practice tests
