Nominations for staff awards can be prepared by anyone employed by the Department of Education, as well as school council/board chairs and parents and citizens association presidents. Parents and students are not eligible to submit a nomination.

It is important to ensure the nomination demonstrates the nominee’s achievements and claims against the selection criteria and that these are supported with examples and evidence.

Self-nomination for staff awards is not accepted. School nominations can be prepared by any staff member at the school who is familiar with the school’s work.

Using the nomination template available for each of the categories, nominations for teachers and support staff must be no longer than three A4 pages and typed in size 11 Arial font.

Written statements for principal nominations must be no longer than one A4 page and typed in size 11 Arial font.

Written statements for school nominations must be no longer than two A4 pages and typed in size 11 Arial font.

All principal and school award nominations from all schools, including Independent Public Schools must be endorsed by the relevant regional executive director after being signed by the principal and chair of the council/board.

All teacher and support staff nominations from Independent Public Schools are endorsed by the principal. Nominations for the principal and school award categories need to be endorsed by the regional executive director.

Yes, nominations can be prepared by school council/board or parents and citizens’ association members and submitted by their chair or president. However before submission, the nomination must be sent to the principal to ensure they sign off on the nomination and for principal and school award categories, that the regional executive director endorses the nomination before submission.

Yes, you must address each criterion relevant to the award. Download a copy of the nomination template from the award category page and start writing your nomination, gathering information and speaking to as many people who can comment as possible.

Once you have completed your nomination using the template provided, gather the attachments you wish to provide as supporting evidence.

An attachment is a document of supporting evidence for your nomination. It could be documents such as letters of support, school data and NAPLAN results.

Each nomination can have three attachments and each attachment is to be no more than one single-sided A4 page and must only consist of the one item, for example, one letter of support is one attachment. The total of your whole nomination must not exceed 10MB.

You will need to download the profile relevant to the award and get the required signatures, which include the principal and chair of the school council/board. You will also need to download the template for the written statement and complete this. You are also required to attach the school’s annual report, business/operation plan, and findings from the national school opinion survey completed in the last year.

Include the names of two referees who are familiar with the nominee’s work. Referees can come from within or outside the school community. For the school awards, the referees should be external to the school. These referees may be contacted at any time during the judging process.

Yes, nominated staff must consent to their nomination. Finalists are expected to attend the awards presentation on Monday 28 October 2019 and winners are expected to be an ambassador for the awards and public education. They must also be involved in the nomination process and given the opportunity to provide feedback before the nomination is submitted.

Nominations close at 5.00pm on Friday 31 May 2019.

Yes, however, they may not be selected as a finalist or winner. Winners are expected to be ambassadors for the following year’s awards program.

Yes, previous nominees and finalists for staff awards are eligible for the 2019 WA Education Awards, however previous winners are not eligible to be nominated for the same category.

No, there is no self-nomination for individual awards.

No, posthumous nominations will not be accepted.

Yes, you can provide supporting evidence as separate attachments to your nomination.

Yes, as long as a significant proportion of the week is dedicated to classroom teaching (0.6).

Yes, they can be nominated for a teacher of the year award if they meet the teaching workload requirements (0.6).

If the person or school you nominate is selected as a finalist you will be automatically invited to the awards presentation breakfast held on Monday 28 October 2019.

Only finalists are eligible for assistance with travel and accommodation.

Principals at either middle schools or district high schools can be nominated in either primary or secondary. This may be based on whether the majority of students are in Year 7 upwards or Year 6 and below.

Teachers with up to three years teaching experience are eligible to be nominated for the WA Beginning Teacher of the Year.

As long as the teacher has been teaching for no more than three years as of 1 April 2019 (the opening date for nominations) they can be nominated for the 2019 WA Beginning Teacher of the Year Award.

Anyone who has taught for more than three years should be nominated for the WA Premier’s Primary or Secondary Teacher of the Year award.

These schools are encouraged to apply in the category that best suits their individual school context or circumstances. This may be based on whether the majority of students are in Year 7 and above or Year 6 and below.

It is recommended that the whole nomination is no more than 10MB. Nominations and attachments can only be uploaded in Word or PDF format.
