“Developing and maximising interagency partnerships and initiatives is key to improving education outcomes for students.”

Jacqui Quartermaine

Principal, Geraldton Primary School

As the newly appointed principal of Geraldton Primary School, Jacqui is determined for every student to be successful and every staff member to make an effective daily contribution to student learning. She uses a dispersed leadership model and strategy to improve what happens each day in the classroom, and is developing a shared culture where the school vision and priorities are acted daily.

As principal of Rangeway Primary School, Jacqui built a culture of inclusion with innovative programs reflecting the cultural heritage of students and families, and aimed to close the education achievement gap for Aboriginal students. In 2013, Jacqui was WA Primary Principal of the Year and the following year the school won the WA Premier’s Excellence in Aboriginal Education Award.

Jacqui’s change project focused on supporting school leaders to deliver high standards through improvement in performance management practices. She explored the extent to which school leaders in the Midwest were effective and confident in their use of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers to assess teacher performance and implement the Employee Performance Policy. She also determined school leader and teacher knowledge of the use of the standards and the performance and development framework. From there, she explored whether the use of a tailor-made coaching process would improve school leaders’ skills, confidence and knowledge of performance management.
