Inner City College (planning name)

Inner City College (planning name) on Kitchener Park in Subiaco will open for the start of the 2020 school year as a local intake secondary school. Initially the school will accommodate 250 Year 7 students and grow to accommodate a total of 2000 Year 7 to 12 students by 2025.

The school will have all the facilities usually provided in a secondary school (classrooms, specialist areas for science, design and technology and the like), albeit on a smaller footprint, given its urban location. The school will also have access to Subiaco Oval in a shared arrangement with the community.

It will also have a Gifted and Talented academic program that will start with the first intake of 32 students in Year 7 in 2020. Children from across the State can apply for this program.

A principal for the school will be appointed 18 months out from the opening (mid-2018) and will work closely with the community to lead the creation of the school’s vision and ethos.

Inner City College will open as an Independent Public School and have a school board to work with the principal and school staff to create a high performing school meeting the dreams and aspirations of students and their families.

The new school will ease enrolment pressure at Churchlands Senior High School, Shenton College and Mount Lawley Senior High School.

Local intake areas will be amended for these three schools to create a local intake area for the new Inner City College. These local intake areas will be announced soon.

The announcement of Inner City College means Perth Modern School will remain on its current site in Roberts Road in Subiaco as the State’s only fully selective academic school.
