Fremantle College

High expectations for student achievement and endeavour will be the hallmarks of Fremantle’s new secondary school opening in 2018

Fremantle College will open for the start of the 2018 school year following the amalgamation of South Fremantle and Hamilton Senior High Schools at the end of 2017.

It will open as an Independent Public School catering for students from Years 7 to 12.

A broad, high level curriculum encompassing academic programs and vocational courses will provide students with opportunities to pursue learning interests that inspire and challenge them, whether they aspire to go on to university, further training or employment after they graduate.

The college will also run a Gifted and Talented Secondary Selective Academic Program.

High quality pastoral care support and programs for students will help them develop a sense of belongingness so each student cultivates a positive self-image.

Strong business, industry and tertiary education partnerships will enhance the quality of learning and provide access to programs that align with the future needs of the Fremantle community.

The college will include a state-of-the-art maritime trade training centre, Olympic-sized swimming pool and cutting edge music centre. Science laboratories and a performing arts centre will be built specifically to give students access to specialist subject teaching and learning environments.

Myles DraperMy vision is to provide an innovative and highly aspirational secondary college to the greater Fremantle area by delivering high quality education and care to all students and to support them in achieving their future goals.

As an educational leader with over 20 years’ experience in public education in Western Australia, I have held leadership positions at Gilmore College, Applecross Senior High School and Woodvale Secondary College.

I have over four years’ experience working in Independent Public Schools and providing innovative, educational solutions to meet the needs of all students.

Leading and inspiring, experienced and dedicated team that gives every student the very best opportunity to flourish and succeed in life is the cornerstone that drives my work. One of my career highlights was working on the positive education initiative at Woodvale Secondary College. The initiative brought teachers, students and parents together to focus on the underpinning philosophy that through a healthy and productive mindset, students can achieve almost anything.

I believe in the effective use of technology to enhance the educational experience of students and to provide them with the opportunity to be creative, innovative, adaptable and resilient individuals that are prepared for the careers of the future.

The college will open in 2018 as an Independent Public School. I am excited about the opportunity to bring the community together to provide Fremantle with a college that reflects the needs and aspirations of students, parents and the community.

Fremantle College is one of a select number of schools in Western Australia offering the prestigious Gifted and Talented Secondary Selective Academic Program.

Through Fremantle College's Gifted and Talented Academic Program your child will have access to specialist teachers, leadership programs, university extension opportunities and a focus on STE(A)M (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) education.

We invite interested Year 5 students and their families to come and meet the new Principal Myles Draper and discover what the future has in store for you by becoming part of this program.

The first slab has been poured for the new building on the Lefroy Road site. This building will contain general learning areas, science labs, the performing arts area, as well as the student services area (which will make for a wonderful entrance to the college). The second new building is also coming along well.

In the renovation areas the administration and design and technology areas are currently undergoing electrical fit-outs and gyprocking. The information technology area has the roof and ceilings completing and airconditioning installation has commenced. The car park is also starting to take shape.

We will keep you updated as the building progresses.
